European Maritime Safety Agency Approved Iranian Seafarers Training
After a week-long investigation carried out by three auditors from the European Maritime Safety Agency on the implementation of the Standards of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers as amended (STCW),It has been approved that Iran maritime training meets the standards and fulfills the requirements of the STCW.
Eng. Saeed Izadian, PMO Deputy for Maritime Affairs said that by going through the investigation and receiving the pass mark, ground has been paved for the Iranian seafarers to serve on the ships carrying the flag of the member states of the European Union.
In order to develop its regional and international maritime ties, Iran has so far signed the MOU on the Recognition of Seafarers Certificate (according to the regulation I/10 STCW-78) with 20 countries and the audit has been conducted as a precondition for signing the MOU with the European Union countries.
