PMO News Portal – Regarding the production and supply of low-sulfur fuel, Nader Pasandeh, Director General of Maritime Safety and Protection of Ports and Maritime Organization, specified: with coordination of the Ports and Maritime Organization and with the efforts of the National Oil and Refining Company, light and heavy low-sulfur fuel have been produced for the consumption of the commercial fleet in the country's refineries, and provided to shipping companies.

He continued: By defining operational projects and improving production processes, improving the technical quality of this fuel and by creating a low sulfur fuel production line in several new refineries, the country's production capacity will increase and it could also be provided to foreign clients.

As of January 1, 2020, the use of low-sulfur fuel for ships that do not use scrubbers is mandatory, in accordance with the annex 6 of the Marine Pollution Prevention Convention.
